Ashnikko has shared the League Of Legends-inspired music video for their Arcane anthem ‘Paint The Town Blue’ – check it out below, exclusively on NME.
Arcane is based on online battle arena game League Of Legends and explores the backstory of two iconic champions – Vi and Jinx. The soundtrack for the second and final season of Netflix’s Arcane series is set to feature new music from the likes of Twenty One Pilots, Stray Kids and King Princess and will be released alongside the TV show. The first taste came via Ashnikko’s ‘Paint The Town Blue’ though, which was originally released in September alongside the official trailer for the show.
“I will never ever shut up about this. I wrote Jinx’s song for my favourite show ever. The first time I saw this trailer, I ugly cried in the street. This show is so special to me and I am just so beyond grateful, read an update on social media at the time, before calling it the sister song of ‘World Eater’ from debut album ‘WEEDKILLER’.
Now Ashnikko has shared their official music video for ‘Paint The Town Blue’, exclusively on NME. Check it out below.
This weekend, Ashnikko will be performing ‘Paint The Town Blue’ for the first time live as part of the League Of Legends World Championship which will reportedly give fans a “taste” of what to expect from the new season of Arcane.
“Ashnikko is a huge fan of Arcane, especially our iconic main character Jinx, so she was the perfect artist to partner with on ‘Paint The Town Blue’,” said Maria Egan, global head of music at Riot Games. “This was a deep creative collaboration with Ashnikko and we’re excited for the League Of Legends community to see what we’ve come up with together for our first live action music video inspired by the show. We can’t wait to watch her perform the song live for the first time at the Worlds Opening Ceremony at the O2 on Saturday!”
The World Championships’ opening ceremony will also see Linkin Park perform ‘Heavy Is The Crown’, which is this year’s World’s Anthem and features on their upcoming album ‘Zero Hour’. They’ll be joined by Mars Atlas and Tiffany Aris, who will perform their collab ‘Still Here’.
Meanwhile, Arcane season two will be split into three different acts, with the first chunk of episodes set to premiere November 9. Act two will arrive on Netflix November 16 and act three premieres on November 23, concluding the Arcane story.
Series co-creator Christian Linke has said Arcane is just “the beginning” of Riot Games’ “larger storytelling journey” though. “From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind. But Arcane is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.”
