The creators of Dune: Awakening have confirmed a spring 2025 release date for the highly-anticipated game – and you can get involved with the character creator right now.
Dune: Awakening is a multiplayer open-world action game from Funcom. Set in an alternate reality to the Dune films and the books they were based on, players will have to battle for power and survival on the desert planet of Arrakis.
“In this unique but still familiar take on the iconic sci-fi universe of Dune, you begin as a prisoner sent to Arrakis to uncover the mystery of the Fremen’s disappearance. Following in the footsteps of the mysterious desert tribe, you will learn the true meaning of desert power as you rise from a nameless survivor to becoming an agent of the Atreides or the Harkonnen,” reads the official description.
Dune: Awakening was first announced back in 2022 and it’s now been confirmed that the game will be released on May 20 via Steam.
Pre-orders for Dune: Awakening have also gone live. The game will cost £49.99 and anyone who pre-orders will receive the Terrarium Of Muad’Dib, “a beautiful in-base decoration which houses the iconic desert mouse”.
To give you a taste of Dune: Awakening, developers have made the game’s character creator tool available here. “Once created, the character can be saved and later imported into the game at launch,” while players will also receive a code for the exclusive Frameblade knife skin.
In addition to character creation, the newly released benchmark mode will let you check your hardware performance and system compatibility “while being treated to some epic scenes from the game, including soaring with an ornithopter and a dramatic encounter with a colossal sandworm.”
“Whether a Dune fan or not, the vast world will immerse you in an epic experience that draws from both Frank Herbert’s sci-fi masterpiece and Denis Villeneuve’s blockbuster movies. Embark on a journey from scavenging and survival to controlling the planet itself,” added developers.
