It looks like The Beta Band are teasing a reunion tour

It seems like The Beta Band have been teasing some kind of reunion after appearing to be active on social media this past month.

Formed in 1996 by Scottish musicians Steve Mason and Gordon Anderson, The Beta Band would go on to release three albums: 1999’s ‘The Beta Band’, 2001’s ‘Hot Shots II’ and 2004’s ‘Heros To Zeros’. They eventually broke up in 2004, explaining that they were £1.2 million in debt to their record company.

Since the start of this month, The Beta Band have been active on social media. On February 4 2025, they shared a photo of the band as their first post on Instagram. A lot of their posts on the social media platform feature animation clips with one being titled “A Bent Bed Cap” and various throwback performances and photos.

Now, it seems that the band may be hinting at a reunion tour. Their three most recent posts include video clips of a touring case with “The Beta Band” painted on it washing up on shore at a beach.

“I’m already clearing my schedule from everything in life. This has been the meaning all along,” wrote one fan in the comments while another shared: “Lads, stop with the nonsense and announce a tour. It’s what everyone wants!”

The Beta Band have also joined BlueSky. They have linked their official website in their bio, which has a sign up section, which fans can fill out to stay informed of any new band news that arises.

The group were quite unique with journalist James McMahon calling them “starshaped in a square hole”, in a blogpost for NME about remembering the band. McMahon highlighted some of the band’s iconic moments within their career such as agreeing to an interview with Mojo Magazine on “the condition they would be asked the same questions as put to The Beatles before their legendary 1966 Shea Stadium concert,” losing their £4000 velcro suits they wore on stage on the Tube and claiming that MTV saw their audience as “vacuous vegetables”.

However, the likes of Radiohead and Oasis were massive fans, with the latter choosing them to serve as opening support during their concerts in 2001.

Since the band’s split in 2004, Mason has gone on to release music with his own solo project King Biscuit Time. He has also released music with his newer projects Black Affair and Good Face. In 2010, Mason released his first LP under his name titled ‘Boys Outside’.

Mason’s other bandmates, Robin Jones, John Maclean and Gordon Anderson formed The Aliens and Richard Greentree has his own band named The General and Duchess Collins.
