Watch Phoebe Bridgers return to ‘The Tonight Show’ with tender acoustic version of ‘Lost Boys’

Phoebe Bridgers returned to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night for a tender acoustic version of ‘Lost Boys’ – check it out below.

The singer-songwriter had appeared on the show the previous night (July 14) to perform the same track, marking its television debut with a band of young musicians.

‘Lost Boys’ was shared last month after Bridgers announced her upcoming new album ‘Lost Weekend’, which will be her follow-up to 2020’s ‘Punisher’. It will be released on August 14 via Dead Oceans and you can pre-order it here.

For her return to the programme last night (July 15), Bridgers stripped the song back for a softer acoustic take, bringing the Peter Pan-inspired metaphors of the single into sharper focus.

Check out the performance here:

The studio version features backing vocals from Bridgers’ Boygenius bandmates Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, while Christian Lee Hutson lends a hand on acoustic guitar. Jack Antonoff also plays various instruments on the track.

The new album comes after Bridgers recently played her first solo live show in three years in Roswell, New Mexico, where she debuted three new songs.

At a more recent show at Madison Square Garden witnessed by NME, she debuted seven new tracks, many of which continued the singular sound she built on ‘Punisher’ – melancholy lyrics made up of astute observations about the state of the world and relationships, backed by slow-strummed guitars and orchestration that oscillated from Americana to indie folk.

Some of the songwriting also harkened back to the unabashed candidness of her 2017 debut album ‘Stranger In The Alps’. One new number, which she introduced by saying “this song is about the past, though I’m told all of my songs are,” came with a crushing, crescendoing chorus that saw her and Hutson strumming emphatically as she alluded to an ill-fated engagement.

Bridgers is also set to head out on the road later this year in support of ‘Lost Weekend’, with ‘The Lost Tour’ due to begin in North America in September before heading to the UK, Ireland and Europe in November and December.

Support comes from Alex G at the North American shows and Isaac Wood at the UK and European dates. Bridgers has also confirmed that there will be a “no phones” rule at all upcoming gigs, with phones and other recording devices locked away during the performances.

The UK and Ireland dates include shows at Dublin’s 3Arena, Manchester’s Co-op Live and London’s The O2 on December 1. You can view the full list of dates here and buy any remaining tickets in the UK here and US here.
