Pixies have announced their new album ‘The Night The Zombies Came’ and shared their haunting new single ‘Chicken’. Check it out below.
‘The Night The Zombies Came’ marks the band’s 10th album – including their classic 1987 4AD mini-LP ‘Come On Pilgrim’ – and also marks their first new music since 2022’s ‘Doggerel’. A press release shared that the 13-track LP is Pixies’ most cinematic record of their career as of yet.
It is set for release on October 25 via BMG. You can pre-order / pre-save it here.
Speaking about the LP in a press release, Pixies frontman Black Francis said: “Fragments that are related and juxtaposed with other fragments in other songs. And in a collection of songs in a so-called LP, you end up making a kind of movie.”
Along with the announcement of the LP, the band have shared ‘Chicken’. “Sometimes I feel like a chicken, pecking my way through the trees, when something aloft cuts my head right off, now I’m dealing with decapitation,” sings Black Francis. Elsewhere in the song, Francis describes feeling like an actor in Zombie movies, while guitarist Joey Santiago provides a sharp and haunting lead guitar part throughout the track.
‘The Night The Zombies Came’ will also feature the band’s previously released song ‘You’re So Impatient‘. The band teamed up with their longtime collaborator, producer Tom Dalgety, for the LP. The creation of the album also saw Pixies welcome new bass player Emma Richardson (Band Of Skulls) to the line-up, making her the first British band member to join the group.
‘The Night The Zombies Came’ Tracklist is:
1. ‘Primrose’
2. ‘You’re So Impatient’
3. ‘Jane (The Night the Zombies Came)’
