AURORA has announced a new concert film called What Happened To The Earth?, which captures her biggest headline show to date in Mexico City.

Released in collaboration with Trafalgar, Mercury Studios, and Fontana, the movie shows the Norwegian alt-pop star performing a sold-out show for 18,000 fans at the Palacio de los Deportes.

Filmed on Día de los Muertos (Day of The Dead) in 2024, the gig saw fans arrive in festive dress, and the new film features both spellbinding performances of songs including ‘Runaway’, ‘The Seed’, and ‘Churchyard’, as well as behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with fans.

It is directed by Gonzalo Lopez, remastered in 4K resolution, and set to start screening in cinemas worldwide from Wednesday March 4.

“In 2024 I did my largest solo show of my whole career in Mexico. It was a dream come true, especially since a large crowd like that could also be so quiet. And so still,” AURORA said. “It felt intimate even though the faces of the crowd stretched so far around the whole arena. All those people, gathered around the stage, just because they love music.”

“We knew it was going to be special, so we decided to make a film of it. With all of us, and all of you. And I hope you like it,” she added.

Tickets go on sale next week (Thursday January 22) at 2pm GMT, and you can sign up here for updates.

Sharing the new poster on social media, AURORA said that she and her team “knew it was going to be special” at the Mexico City gig, and therefore “decided to make a film of it. With all of us, and all of you.”

Marc Allenby, CEO of Trafalgar Releasing shared: “We are pleased to partner again with Mercury to bring AURORA’s debut feature film to cinemas around the globe. This exceptional 4K remaster takes an amazing concert and brings it to another level. Audiences will be mesmerised worldwide.”

Tom Lewis, President of Fontana, agreed and added that the film both captures “an exhilarating, euphoric and beautiful concert” and “feels like another landmark moment” for the singer.

The 2024 tour dates came in support of AURORA’s latest album ‘What Happened To The Heart?’ which dropped that same year and was praised by NME as showing her “leading by example with a dazzling world of her own”.

The record was also produced by The Chemical Brothers’ Tom Rowlands, and the two of them later went on to announce they had formed new band, TOMORA.

Last month they dropped their debut single ‘Ring The Alarm’, and have since been confirmed as playing Coachella, Down The Rabbit Hole, Open’er, Sziget and more festivals across this summer.

The Chemical Brothers first worked with AURORA in 2019, when she provided guest vocals to their ‘No Geography’ album.

The ‘Soft Universe’ singer also named them as one of her favourite artists ahead of the album’s release, and said that when she received an advanced copy of the record, she “knew right away” what she wanted to contribute to it.

“I’ve always loved Chemical Brothers, ever since I was a sperm,” she told NME in 2019, sharing how the initial collaboration came about. “I love dancing to it. It has a gumption in it.” She also added that the duo reaching out for a collaboration was “the only time I’ve had a *gasp* moment in my life, because I don’t really get starstruck.”

As well as the new concert film and upcoming live shows with TOMORA, AURORA has also joined forces with Fontaines D.C., Paloma Faith, Brian Eno and more to launch a new alliance called Together Against The Far Right. It is set to hold a major national demonstration in London on Saturday March 28.
